Sulfur is one of the major multi-valent volatile elements with valence states ranging from S2- to S6+, making it an element with high redox potential. Subduction zones are thought be more oxidized than other tectonic settings making oxidized form of sulfur a potential candidate to investigate. I’ve performed piston-cylinder and multi-anvil experiments to investigate the sulfur carrying capacity of mantle wedge hydrous basaltic magma in the presence of a sulfate phase (Chem. Geol. 2019). I am working on sulfate/melt partitioning experiments of trace elements to understand the oxygen fugacity of subducting slab.
